Crewe has been allocated up to £22.9m of funding to support the town’s long-term economic growth, after being announced in July 2021 as one of the UK towns to secure a ‘Town Deal’.

It follows a successful bid to the government’s Towns Fund in January 2021, which was overseen by Crewe Town Board.

A package of projects earmarked to benefit from the Towns Fund is now being progressed. The projects focus on town centre regeneration, culture and heritage, community spaces and connected places.

Crewe Town Board is made up of a team of representatives from the community, public, private and voluntary sectors.

As well as overseeing the Towns Fund bid, the board is helping to oversee the delivery of other projects already in the pipeline, including the town centre’s regeneration and  HS2 hub station, to ensure all are aligned to the same vision.

Cheshire East Council is the legal accountable body for the funding.

‘Ly2’ - Lyceum Square Enhancement Scheme

Planning permission has been granted to transform Crewe’s Lyceum Square into an exciting events and performance space as part of the town centre’s regeneration.

Cheshire East Council has been allocated £750,000 from the government’s Accelerated Towns Fund for an improvement scheme for the Lyceum Square and adjacent areas, known as Ly2.
