If you feel as strongly as we do about reducing waste, would you like to help us? We have a dedicated group of Waste Reduction Volunteers who promote home composting and the Love Food Hate Waste programme at local community events and also Recycling Champions, who may have less time to offer, but help up promote our campaigns in their local community.
Waste Reduction Volunteers
Cheshire East Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council have come together in partnership to work with Waste Watch to deliver the Waste Reduction Volunteer programme which aims to reach out to the wider community and inspire the public to change their thinking about waste.
Our team of 60 dedicated Waste Reduction Volunteers attend road shows and community events, support local projects and deliver talks throughout the area, speaking to people about home composting and food waste reduction.
Are you organising an event or talk and would like one of our volunteers to attend?
Call us on 0300 123 5500 and ask for the Waste Reduction Volunteer Project Coordinator, alternatively please email the Waste Reduction team.

Volunteering is ‘Blooming Good for You’
Ansa’s Waste Reduction Volunteers are extremely excited to be working in partnership with CVS Cheshire East at the RHS Tatton Flower Show for the first time this July. Their garden, in conjunction with ‘Knutsford GROW’ will be looking to inspire volunteering as well as help to promote our local voluntary & community sector in the ‘Blooming Beds’ section of the Show.
As the theme of this section of the show will be ‘Plant Hunters’, the design of the garden will include the use of edible plants and will be used to showcase some of what community groups and volunteers across Cheshire East can achieve. Gardening and being outside in the fresh air is a fantastic way to boost both physical and mental health and volunteering is a great excuse to do this whilst helping others at the same time!
As well as the obvious fruit and vegetables, there are also many different types of edible plants such as daylilies, lavender, gladioli, yucca, cornflowers and even the humble daisy can be used to brighten up a salad.
Nicola Cooke, Volunteer Champion of CVS Cheshire East said: “We are really proud and excited to be a part of the RHS Tatton Flower Show this year as it's such a high profile event right in the heart of Cheshire East. It also gives us the perfect opportunity to talk to the general public about the way they can give their time to enhance their local community.”
The Waste Reduction Volunteers teach people about the benefits of home composting and food waste reduction. They help to run roadshows at fairs, festivals and events, help to deliver workshops in schools, and give talks to community groups – all while being part of an active and social team of like-minded people.
If you think you have the passion to become part of our team, please get in touch with the Waste Reduction Volunteer project co-ordinator at: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Become a Recycling Champion
Cheshire East Council runs ongoing waste minimisation campaigns promoting recycling and waste reduction. But if we are to ensure the campaigns reach into the heart of every community, we need the support of a network of enthusiastic local Recycling Champions. With your help as a Recycling Champion for your community, we can ensure that our campaigns are seen and understood in all corners of Cheshire East.
How you can help
- Display posters on local noticeboards, local shops, pubs and other meeting places
- Put articles in Parish newsletter and websites
- Arrange for speakers at local events
What help will Recycling Champions receive?
We provide regular packs containing updates on existing campaigns and on waste issues for Cheshire East as well as information on planned campaigns. The packs include campaign details, publicity materials such as posters or leaflets, and details of the campaign start and end dates. We also hope to provide simple events materials for those offering to run stands or displays at your local events. For more information please contact us.
Waste and recycling is now provided by Ansa - a company owned by Cheshire East Council
