Cheshire East Council to share over £2m to support residents struggling with cost of living

22/10/2024

Residents across the borough are set to receive support if they are struggling to meet rising costs due to the cost of living crisis.

Over the next six months, Cheshire East Council will be distributing £2.2m through the Government’s Household Support Fund. The funding will cover the period 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025, with the objective of the fund being to provide crisis support to vulnerable households in most need with the cost of essentials.

Through the scheme, financial help can take the form of supermarket vouchers, cash for energy vouchers, help with boiler repair or replacements and help with housing costs for those in rented accommodation.

CCllr Carol Bulman 223x280ouncillor Carol Bulman, chair of Cheshire East Council’s children and families committee, said: “Through the Household Support Fund, we have provided more than £15m of support and over 100,000 separate payments to vulnerable residents within Cheshire East. It has been a lifeline for many people, and I am delighted we are able to do this once more as we enter the winter period.

“Nobody should have to suffer in silence. Working alongside our voluntary and community sector partners, those that need help with financial support and access to food or paying bills will get it.”
