Cheshire East responds to Major Crewe Fire

10 August 2024

Cheshire East Council is working closely with colleagues from the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Cheshire Police, and other agencies to respond to a major fire in Crewe which started yesterday (9 August), at a commercial property in the Frances Street / Catherine Street area.

The council is continuing to provide support to residents who have been evacuated from their homes, by providing temporary accommodation and support at the Crewe Lifestyle Centre, working with Everybody Health and Recreation and the British Red Cross to ensure that people’s wellbeing is supported.

A number of road closures remain in place at this time, however, our colleagues from Cheshire East Highways will support the safe re-opening of any remaining road closures, in coordination with the emergency services, when it is safe to do so.  Follow @CECHighways on X (formerly Twitter) for the latest updates.

People living, working and travelling in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed and to stay indoors if possible.

Residents have shown enormous resilience and we thank them for their patience at this difficult time as they wait to return to their homes.  It has been wonderful to see many messages of support from the wider Crewe community, and we would also like to thank, Crewe Alexandra FC for providing an emergency reception centre for residents who had to leave their homes.
