24 August 2023

Pupils across Cheshire East have achieved success today in their GCSE and vocational technical qualification (VTQ) results.

Provisional figures show that 67 per cent of pupils achieved a ‘standard pass’ or better in GCSE English and maths combined with 47 per cent achieving the ‘strong pass’.

GCSE English results were particularly strong with 79 per cent of Cheshire East pupils gaining the standard pass or better with 64 per cent achieving a strong pass.

Overall results for pupils who studied vocational technical qualifications will be available in the autumn.

Cllr Carol Bulman 223x280Councillor Carol Bulman, lead member for children and families at Cheshire East Council, said: “It is an absolute privilege to celebrate the GCSE and VTQ exam results with the young people of Cheshire East and I am so proud of all their achievements.

“We know that the long-term impact on the pandemic has placed additional pressures on students, school staff and family members to prepare for these exams and everyone has certainly risen to the challenge.

“I applaud everyone for going ‘above and beyond’ and these results show the unity and resilience of everyone to best support all our young people.

“I want to especially celebrate the achievements of our cared for children where there have been some tremendous individual results.

“This time of year is an anxious one for pupils, and my message is, to be proud of what you have achieved.  Whatever your result, together with our schools, we are here to help you with your next steps.

“I’d like to wish every young person the very best as they progress into their next phase of education, apprenticeship or training.”
