4 March 2025
Cheshire East Council in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) JobCentre Plus team hosted a successful jobs fair in Crewe on Thursday 27 February.
The careers event held at Crewe Market Hall attracted almost 900 potential applicants for a range of new job opportunities with more than twenty-five employers across the borough.
Feedback from the event has been impressive and so far, all positive from both the attendees and the employers. There were 45 (both Cheshire East Council and DWP) Interviews booked on the day to take place over the next two weeks, and with at least 194 applications completed on the day (123 being DWP claimants).
Care4CE who provide social care services at the council took 62 applicants names and specialist childcare provider Homes for Support took 40 applicants and are interviewing ten people this week. The vendors inside Crewe Market Hall also said they had received a huge upturn in their takings.
David Simcox, director and owner of Discounted Cleaning Supplies Limited, a leading distributor of high-quality cleaning products, said: “The jobs fair was a resounding success. We spoke to 50 job seekers and have already received 14 CVs from people keen to be interviewed.
“The well-organised event, held at a spacious and accessible venue, facilitated seamless interactions between attendees and employers. The enthusiasm from local job seekers was truly inspiring.”
Sarah Mackay and Fern Gresty from iPET Network, an awarding organisation that offers qualifications from Level 2 to Level 5 for the animal care and veterinary science sector, said: “It was lovely to see employers, training providers and support services working together to present opportunities to the local community which helps to enable all.”
Councillor Michael Gorman, chair of Cheshire East Council’s economy and growth committee, praised the event’s success and said: “I am delighted to hear the jobs fair has been such a resounding success in helping local people find out about and secure new jobs.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the businesses and organisations that participated, everyone who attended and to Crewe Market Hall for offering to host the event.”
