Council to share over £3.8m to support residents most in need
7 April 2025
Residents most in need across the borough will continue to receive vital support.
Over the next six months, Cheshire East Council will distribute £3.88 million through the Government’s Household Support Fund. This funding, covering the period from 1 April 2025 to 30 September 2025, aims to provide essential crisis support to the most vulnerable households.
The Household Support Fund will offer financial assistance in various forms, including supermarket vouchers, cash for energy vouchers, help with boiler repairs or replacements, and housing cost support for those in rented accommodation.
Councillor Laura Crane, chair of Cheshire East Council’s children and families committee said: “The Household Support Fund has been a lifeline for many of our residents. I am delighted that the government has chosen to extend this fund, which has helped thousands of vulnerable people in our borough over the past five years.
“No one should have to suffer in silence. By working alongside our voluntary and community sector partners, we are ensuring that those in need of financial support, food, or help with paying bills receive the assistance they require.”
Since its inception in 2020, the Household Support Fund has been a lifeline for vulnerable households in Cheshire East. In the past six months alone, the council has:
- Prevented families from facing lengthy and costly court cases and evictions.
- Supported young people to attend school, ensuring they do not miss out on their education.
- Repaired heating systems in homes, keeping residents warm during the winter.
- Provided home adaptations to ensure individuals can access vital home care, preventing immediate danger.
- Supplied care leavers with essential white goods, giving them the best start in their new homes.
- Cleaned homes that were unsafe for children, allowing families to return safely.
- Provided beds for families, ensuring children do not have to sleep on the floor.
