New stalls available at Macclesfield Market Hall

14 April 2025

The second phase of the refurbishment of Macclesfield Market Hall is on target to complete at the end of the month and Cheshire East Council is looking for budding entrepreneurs to take up stalls in the new and improved space.

The market, which sits inside the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in the middle of Macclesfield, will become a central hub for the town’s thriving independent sector. The refurbishment of Macclesfield Market Hall has been funded by £1.9m from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Many of the longstanding established traders have opted to stay in the refurbished market, but additional stalls mean newly created opportunities for more businesses.

The council is now putting a call out for any independent entrepreneurs considering setting up business in Macclesfield to get in touch and move their businesses forward at Macclesfield Market Hall. A variety of stall sizes are available, some suitable for food and drink businesses and others for retail or services.

Councillor Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “It’s great to see what this superb refurbishment is already doing for the market hall – it’s really re-energised the space. It’s created a buzz among our existing traders and that’s a great starting point for a new trader coming in – so that’s my message to would be traders: come down, see what it’s all about and talk to our teams. We’re keen to hear from you!”

Councillor Michael Gorman, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council and chair of its economy and growth committee, said: “A successful market combines a warm welcoming atmosphere with a really strong variety in its offer and that’s absolutely what we’re continuing to build here in Macclesfield. This is a great time for a new trader to be joining the market hall.”

Rahat Masad – known to regular visitors to the market hall simply as ‘Sid’ – from R&M Bags, is feeling very positive about the refurbishment. He said: “We look after each other here at the market hall and I love the improvements that have been made. I really hope that everyone visiting the hall appreciates them too. It’s great!”

An information pack is available for prospective traders by request and can be made by emailing: mmh@cheshireeast.gov.uk

Alternatively, the council’s markets team can be contacted to arrange an informal conversation initially if that is preferred.
