Next three ‘pocket parks’ to go out to public consultation

Cheshire East Council is asking local residents for feedback on how a further three parks in Crewe should be revamped.
Samuel Street, Lime Tree Avenue and the land next to Jubilee Gardens are the three latest ‘pocket parks’ to go out to public consultation.
The council wants feedback from residents and those who use the parks about how these important community spaces could be improved to provide better facilities and to make them more accessible.
Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “It’s important to keep building on the momentum that we have already got going with the opening of the first two pocket parks in the spring and the next two to come.
“People living in close proximity to Samuel Street, Lime Tree Avenue and Jubilee Gardens have the added benefit of being able to see the successful projects we have already delivered to see what can be achieved. I hope that this encourages them and many other residents to engage with the consultation.”
In total, nine pocket parks in Crewe will become more attractive and better equipped spaces for people to spend time, play and enjoy physical activity.
McLaren Street and Derby Docks were the first pocket parks to be revamped, School Crescent will open at the end of the month and Queen Street will open later this summer.
The total investment in these four parks is almost £825,000, with the government’s Towns Fund providing £425,000.
Cheshire East Council secured £400,000 additional funding from the Landfill Communities Fund via the FCC Communities Foundation - a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects.
Crewe Town Board chairman, Tony Davison, said: “This is a very exciting time for Crewe and like the parks that have gone before them, the next three pocket parks, which we are consulting on now, can also be truly inspirational places.
“I’m delighted to see another three Towns Fund projects starting out on their journey to go with the two that will be opening soon. Crewe residents have every right to be excited about what’s to come.”
The council’s ‘Pocket Parks’ project is supported by the government’s Towns Fund and overseen by Crewe Town Board. It is led in partnership by Cheshire East Council, Ansa Environmental Services and Crewe Town Council. The council will be consulting on Valley Park and Westminster Street pocket parks in 2025.
