Residents give thumbs up for borough’s Green Flag parks

Cheshire East has once again been successful in winning Green Flag awards right across the borough and our residents have been singing the praises of their favourite spots.
Tegg’s Nose Country Park on Buxton Old Road on the outskirts of Macclesfield has always proved popular, as these comments show:
“Tegg’s Nose Country Park is magnificent. We met up with family who live nearby and really enjoyed a circular walk around the country park. The history is explained as you go if you stop to read about it and the views are breathtaking. The café, which is now called The Nose is well worth stopping at for a light lunch or a coffee break.”
“This place was absolutely incredible. Such great views all the way round.”
“Amazing views all around, a nice easy walk for any ability. Beautiful.”
Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve was another of our fantastic open spaces to receive a Green Flag. One visitor commented: “Very nice walk around the lake with woodland. A good place to do mindful walking with benches to sit and enjoy your surroundings.” “A little piece of heaven,” said another.
Macclesfield Riverside Park was another of our open green spaces to receive praise: “We visited here last minute from a quick Google maps search for a local park whilst nearby. It was so lovely! My two boys loved exploring and my dog had a fab time in and out of the river. It was super clean, and I think it will now be a regular place to visit.”
The prestigious Green Flag Awards are made each year by the charity Keep Britain Tidy and are an international quality ‘kitemark’ for parks, green spaces, and beaches and a benchmark standard for the management of green spaces in the UK and around the world. In Cheshire East, Green Flags have been awarded to and retained by:
- Tatton Park, Knutsford
- Queens Park, Crewe;
- Congleton Park;
- Sandbach Park;
- Milton Park, Alsager;
- The Moor, Knutsford;
- Bollington Recreation Ground;
- Tegg’s Nose Country Park, Macclesfield;
- Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve;
- Fountain Fields, Middlewich and
- Macclesfield Riverside Park
Tatton Park, Congleton Park and Queens Park also retained their Green Heritage Site status.

ouncillor Dawn Clark, vice chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “We’re very proud of our record of retaining our Green Flags across the borough and my sincere thanks go to all the wonderful officers and volunteers who play such a vital role in the upkeep of these sites.
“However, what is even more pleasing is hearing from the many residents who benefit from these beautiful outdoor spaces, and I actively encourage everyone to continue to embrace the great outdoors and enjoy them as often as possible.”
