Take back your life this No Smoking Day – Wednesday 12 March
6 March 2025
This National No Smoking Day, Cheshire East Council is encouraging everyone who smokes to take the first step towards a healthier, smoke-free life.
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health, and it's never too late to start. Even if you've tried quitting before, give it another go this No Smoking Day.
The average smoker can save around £48 a week by quitting smoking which is nearly £2,500 a year. Apart from the financial benefits, when you stop smoking, there are almost immediate improvements to your health.
Smokers don't have to go it alone – it's much easier to quit smoking when you get the right support, and there are lots of options to choose from.
One You Cheshire East is offering a free, 12-week, Be Smoke Free programme to help residents quit smoking with expert support and treatment to give you the best chance of quitting successfully. If you are ready to stop, the Be Smoke Free Team can sign you up on the day or you can take away information to sign up on a day and time that suits you.
Dee, a former smoker who managed to quit, said: “I was smoking 30 to 40 cigarettes a day, and persistently wheezing, and having reoccurring problems with my chest.
“I have been suffering with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for a long time, and I have constantly been using a blue and green inhaler. I came to the Be Smoke Free clinic in November 2024 where I met my advisor in person. I started my stop smoking treatment a few days later – I had a combination of patches and a vape which both were provided by Be Smoke Free service for free as well as regular support from my advisor.
“Since I stopped smoking more than two months ago, I hardly have to use my COPD inhalers and feel much healthier now. Thank you again so much. I’m now smoke free.”
The Be Smoke Free Team will have a stand on Wednesday 12 March at:
- Crewe Lifestyle Centre, Moss Square, Crewe CW1 2BB 10am to 4pm
- Eagle Bridge Health Centre, Dunwoody Way, Crewe CW1 3AW 10am to 1pm
Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council committee chair for adults and health, said: "National No Smoking Day is a fantastic opportunity for people to take back control of their health and their lives.
“Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions you can make for your health, and with the right support, it really is achievable. So, let's make this No Smoking Day the start of a healthier, smoke-free future for everyone."
