Replacement of outdated traffic signal equipment

Cheshire East Council has been awarded an extra £577,003 following a successful bid for funds from the Department of Transport’s Traffic Signals Obsolescence Grant to replace outdated traffic signal equipment across the Borough.

The Traffic Signals Obsolescence Grant is a £30 million fund to upgrade traffic signal systems across England, replacing aged and obsolete equipment to improve reliability. The funding will be used over the coming two years and will improve the council’s traffic lights, including traffic signal controllers and pedestrian crossing equipment.

  • replacing old pedestrian detection, push button units, and stop line detectors at 15 locations during 2024
  • replacing five crossing controllers during 2024
  • replacing five junction controllers in 2025
