Developing you

We want our employees to learn and develop in their role and feel that they are valued, where as a Council we are big believers in “Growing our Own” for the future:

  • we provide access to face-to-face training courses, workshops, and a diverse range of online learning courses through Learning Lounge (our interactive learning management system) which contains a wealth of courses and learning resources for staff
  • we have a comprehensive training offer, including an intense induction programme to ensure all our care workers are enabled to provide the best service to our service users possible
  • a programme of management and leadership programmes
  • regular one-to-one discussions with your manager to review and build on positive performance and development
  • annual professional development conversations to agree future objectives for the coming 12 months as well as an opportunity to discuss your career aspirations and professional development. This also includes a discussion about your personal well-being with the development of a personal well-being plan
  • clear and supported career progression pathways

Some courses are essential to support your induction, confidence, and practice and these will be arranged in advance of your start date. Many of these courses take place as e-learning modules, others may be face-to-face.

Induction

We understand that when you start a new job it’s important that you are welcomed and feel part of the team. All Cheshire East all new employees receive a structured induction period that ensures they can understand the organisation, their team and their role in it.

The induction process is about helping new employees to feel welcome, be confident to ask questions and enjoy a positive start to their career with Cheshire East Council. During your induction period you can expect:

  • To be helped to settle into your new environment and have help and guidance on your responsibilities
  • The ability and opportunity to shadow and co-work to build up your confidence till you are ready
  • Engaging in our Vision and Values, HR practices, health and safety regulations and naturally familiarising with the job you are required to do

We see the induction as more than skills and knowledge training; it is also about the basics that seasoned employees all take for granted: for example, getting to know our working patterns; where certain equipment is; booking and recording sickness; dress code etc. to make sure you are fully enabled from your first day.
