Why work within care?

At Cheshire East Council we believe that everybody can make a difference, where our Care Workers play an important part caring to the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of our service users to ensure they are empowered to live as independently as possible.

Working within care allows you to truly make a difference to people’s lives where you positively impact the residents of the Cheshire East area daily with their caring needs

By working within a support environment, instead of a hospital setting it allows you to develop and build relationships with service users. There’s no better feeling when seeing a service user that you’re caring for smiling or saying thank you. Whether it is making sure someone is taking their medication correctly or ensuring they make it to their doctor's appointment on time, knowing you have done your best for them will provide you with a sense of job satisfaction that is rare, if not non-existent, in most other professions

The care sector also you to develop a wide range of skills and experience that set you up for a successful and purposeful career. Clinical skills you may use within care include:

  • taking a pulse
  • taking a blood pressure reading
  • counting respiratory rate
  • measuring urine output
  • assessing hydration level
  • assessing mental state
