Public Rights of Way Framework
Installation of Public Rights of Way furniture and associated countryside access works
Supplier Engagement event April 2025
The Public Rights of Way (PROW) team held two supplier engagement events on Monday 7 April to begin to reach out to suppliers ahead of launching the tender for the Public Rights of Way Framework later in 2025.
The event gave potential contractors a broad understanding of the public rights of way network in Cheshire East; the key principles of the public rights of way framework and introduced tendering in the public sector.
Why is there a need for the Framework
Most public rights of way cross private land and responsibility for their upkeep is shared between the landowner and the highway authority. The landowner is responsible for keeping them free from obstruction and for looking after gates and stiles on the route, while the highway authority is responsible for maintaining them in good condition as well as signing and waymarking them.
The Framework is being put in place to facilitate the installation or replacement of signposts, stiles and gates, and bridges, with an annual programme of vegetation management.
Don’t worry if you couldn’t attend the event, you can find out more information about the PROW Framework by viewing the Supplier Engagement presentation (MS Powerpoint, 32MB).
