Information for childminders

Becoming a childminder

Childminders look after children for payment or reward, in a domestic property that is not normally where the child lives. Childminders have the option to register either with Ofsted or with a childminder agency.

Visit GOV.UK for information on becoming a childminder and running your business.

To recover the cost of registering to be a childminder, you can apply for a childminder start-up grant.

Childminder briefing sessions

Cheshire East Early Years Team want to support you if you are thinking of becoming a childminder. We run regular briefing sessions for anyone interested in becoming a childminder. These are usually held from 6pm to 8pm online via Microsoft Teams, and cover:

  • Ofsted registration
  • required documents and training
  • how to apply
  • the registration visit
  • childminder start-up grant

For further information, including the next available briefing date, register your interest to attend an online briefing session.
