Birth Certificate Fees

Once a birth has been registered, you can purchase one or more certificates at a cost of £12.50 for each certificate.

For further information on certificate issue, see our duplicate certificate page.

Short certificate

After a birth has been registered, a short birth certificate showing the name, sex, date and district of birth may be purchased. Please note that short birth certificates are no longer accepted by the Passport Office.

Additional copy or duplicate certificates may be purchased from a registrar.

Please note that anyone born after 31 December 1982 who applies for a U.K. passport for the first time is now required to provide a full birth certificate to the UK passport service.

The cost of this certificate is £12.50.

Please note most of the services we provide are exempt from VAT, where VAT is applicable the VAT-inclusive charge is shown.
