A527 Park Lane / Ayrshire Way, Congleton – Pedestrian crossing installation and highway improvement works

We will be installing a new pedestrian crossing and carrying out additional improvement works on the A527 Park Lane, Ayrshire Way and Sefton Avenue, Congleton. 

What is happening

The works will include:

  • Improvements to the existing bus layby opposite Congleton railway station
  • Resurfacing works
  • Footway widening
  • Street lighting improvements
  • Installing new road markings and traffic signals. 

When it's happening

The works will take approximately 7 weeks to complete, commencing on 3 February 2025 (excluding weekends), as detailed below: 

  • Phase 1 – Footway and carriageway works on the A527 Park Lane, between the junctions of Sefton Avenue and Ayrshire Way on the Congleton railway station side from 3 – 21 February 2025
  • Phase 2 – Footway and carriageway works on the A527 Park Lane, between the junctions of Sefton Avenue and Ayrshire Way on the side where the existing bus layby is located from 24 February – 20 March 2025

Road closures and diversion routes

Under current Health and Safety legislation, a road and footway closure will be necessary at all times during these works for the safety of our workforce and members of the public.

We understand there is no right time to undertake this work. However, the scheme has been carefully planned to minimise any inconvenience to you and other road users.

Access to the railway station will be maintained at all times and bus companies will be operating a revised route along Leek Road / Canal Road – please check their website for more information regarding timetable changes.

Please note that we occasionally change our works at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions or logistics.

Emergency services are aware of the planned closure and access will be facilitated wherever possible.

Further information

  • Those who are directly impacted by these works have been informed
  • The road closures are necessary to protect the safety of both members of the public and our workforce. Please respect our workers
  • Access for pedestrians and cyclists is maintained where possible and cyclists may be asked to dismount
  • Local businesses remain open, and access is signed, and being facilitated for businesses and residents 
  • Delays are expected and motorists should plan journeys accordingly
