Consultation on developing new SEN provisions across Cheshire East
16 December 2020
On the 27 November, consultation commenced with Cheshire East schools as part of our ongoing commitment to increase the number of SEN provisions across the borough.
Our analysis of the last three years shows a significant increase in the number of SEN learners attending our schools and this consultation is intended to identify new SEN provisions to meet the growing need for specialist places.
Capital investment has already seen us plan and invest in schemes which will see the number of in-borough specialist SEN places increase from 487 to 669 with the intention now to progress this further.
The new Axis school in Crewe is an example of this exciting work as well as expansions of Springfield and Park lane special schools. The three-year plan now open for consultation will aim to increase SEN places by around 250 places allowing more SEN learners to attend local schools to best meet their needs.

The closing date for this consultation period is 22 January 2021.
On the same note, it is pleasing to see the positive progress being made on the new build at Puss Bank Primary School in Macclesfield as part of our phase one capital investment to increase SEN provisions across Cheshire East.
This new block will provide specialist provision for an additional seven places for SEN learners which adds to the existing resource provision at the school.
