Green (or brown) bin

Your green or brown bin is for garden and food waste.

We only collect your green or brown bins if you have a garden waste subscription.

Find out what to do with your garden and food waste if you don't subscribe to the garden waste scheme.

Things that can go in:

  • flowers and plants
  • grass cuttings
  • hay, straw and wood shavings
  • hedge clippings
  • leaves
  • leftover food and food waste - including egg shells, bread, fruit, salad, vegetable peelings, meat and fish (raw and cooked) including bones
  • pet food (dog and cat food)
  • tea bags, tea, coffee grounds
  • twigs and small branches

Things that can't go in:

  • animal waste
  • coffee filters
  • liquid cooking fat or oil
  • paper, plastic, glass, metals, leather, plant pots/containers, porcelain, plaster, disposable nappies, ash, vacuum cleaner contents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, batteries, dyestuffs, textiles, feathers, household or garden chemicals
  • rubble and stone
  • soil, compost or large amounts of turf
