Mobile household waste recycling centre
Changes to household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in Cheshire East came into effect on Monday 5 August 2024 as part of essential savings measures for 2024/25. These changes include the emergency closure of Bollington, Poynton and Middlewich HWRCs .
If you live in the Bollington, Poynton or Middlewich areas, a mobile household waste recycling service is available to you while the emergency closures are in place – you can also visit any of the other HWRCs in Cheshire East.
The changes to HWRCs are being introduced to ensure essential savings are made in 2024/25.
Where the service will be
The mobile HWRC will alternate between Bollington, Poynton and Middlewich - each site will receive 1 visit per month. This will take place on a Saturday from 8am to 10am.
Before you visit the mobile site, you will need to book a slot.
You can only visit our mobile sites in a car.
The mobile HWRC will be at:
- Bollington on the first Saturday of the month
- Middlewich on the second Saturday of the month
- Poynton on the last Saturday of the month
This may vary during December.
Mobile HWRC locations
- Middlewich – Environmental Hub, Cledford Lane, Middlewich CW10 0JN
- Bollington – off Albert Road, Bollington SK10 5HW (on part of the HWRC site that is now under an emergency closure)
- Poynton – off Anson Road, Poynton, SK12 1TD (on part of the HWRC site that is now under an emergency closure)

Why we chose these locations
Having Middlewich’s mobile HWRC based at the environmental hub in Cledford Lane means that the overall costs to transport the waste we receive via our mobile HWRC will be lower.
This is because the waste we collect during each mobile HWRC session – with the exception of garden waste, which is taken to our composting plant in Leighton in Crewe – will be taken to the hub to be processed.
Bollington and Poynton’s mobile HWRC will be based on part of the sites that are currently used for each town’s household waste recycling centre, which are now under emergency closures.
These sites have been tested from a highway safety and access perspective, which means that we know they are suitable for visitors to our mobile HWRC.
The equipment that is usually on these sites – including the various waste collection bins – has been removed during the emergency closures. This is for health and safety reasons and because the equipment is not owned by the council.
