Reporting homelessness

If you are homeless or think you might be at risk of becoming homeless, Contact our Housing Options Team.

If you are not yet homeless, we may be able to find a way for you to stay in your current home. Take a look at our housing advice pages to help you understand what you might be able to do to make a planned move.

If you are concerned about someone sleeping on the streets, see our advice pages on rough sleeping.

Eligibility

Before we can work with you, we assess your eligibility for housing assistance.

You are eligible for housing assistance if you have:

  • British or Irish citizenship
  • indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
  • refugee status or humanitarian protection
  • settled status under the EU settlement scheme
  • leave to remain with recourse to public funds

If you do not meet these criteria, we can offer advice about what other agencies can do to help.

Free access to advice

According to the Housing Act 1996, we must give you free advice and information about homelessness.

The Homelessness Reduction Act requires us to provide specific advice to certain groups who may need extra help if they are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
