Diabetes is a condition that effects blood sugar. There are two types – type 1 and type 2.
With type 1, your blood sugar is too high due to your body being unable to produce its own insulin. Whilst the exact cause of this is still unknown and there is no cure the condition can be managed through insulin injections or an insulin pump. It is very important to check blood sugar levels on a regular basis.
With type 2, your blood sugar is too high due to your body not making enough insulin. Continued high levels of blood sugar can lead to stroke or heart attack as well as foot, eye and kidney problems. You can do things to try to prevent type 2 diabetes – always attend your health checks, eat a healthy balanced diet and keep yourself active.
